9th grade to 12th grade

Our high school is intentionally designed to prepare students for meaningful lives beyond graduation by combining academic rigor with real-world experiences. Every student follows an individualized four-year plan developed in partnership with faculty advisors. They create a course schedule that aligns with their interests, strengths, and post-secondary goals while meeting the expectations of competitive colleges and universities.

Our experienced educators challenge students through rigorous, discussion-based courses that emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication. Human-Centered Design serves as a unifying framework, inviting students to tackle complex local and global challenges through research, empathy, creative problem-solving, and iterative design. Contemporary Reads, a yearlong seminar, complements this work by engaging students in thoughtful conversations around identity, history, race, power, and belonging through diverse works of contemporary literature.

Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Through Professional Explorations, students partner with experts for mentorships and apprenticeships to discover potential career paths and connect their learning to the modern workplace. Outdoor education, leadership experiences, service learning, and campus traditions further develop resilience, confidence, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.

Throughout their four years at Terra, students are known, challenged, and supported as individuals. By graduation, they leave academically prepared for college and equipped with the curiosity, adaptability, and sense of purpose to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Choosing what comes after high school is a significant milestone, and at Terra, it is a journey of discovery. Our college counseling program is grounded in partnership, reflection, and purpose. We work closely with students and families to help each learner better understand their strengths, passions, and aspirations, empowering them to identify colleges and post-secondary pathways where they can thrive. Throughout their time at Terra, students are encouraged to make intentional choices, embrace meaningful challenges, and pursue opportunities that reflect who they are and the impact they hope to make in the world.

Advising at Terra

Advising is an integral part of student life at Terra High School. Each faculty advisor works with a small group of students throughout their high school years to build strong, durable relationships while serving as a mentor, advocate, and guide. Through weekly advisory meetings and regular one-on-one conferences, advisors support students as they navigate the academic, social, and personal journey of high school. They help students to:

Set goals.
Select courses.
Find the right level of academic challenge.
Monitor progress.
Develop the habits and skills needed for long-term success.

Advisors also serve as the primary connection between home and school, partnering closely with families as students explore college and other post-secondary pathways. Grounded in meaningful relationships and individualized attention, Terra's advising program empowers every student to grow with confidence, purpose, and ownership of their learning.

Professional Explorations

Immersions connect individual high school students directly with individual industry experts to explore the work world. These experiences are curated for each student when they apply to the program. Professional Immersions curriculum includes the basics of being a professional and is a year-round initiative in the high school that includes opportunities for ongoing engagement, support, and conversation with professionals.

Grades 9 & 10
One Industry, Multiple Experts

Open to students in grades 9 - 10, one or a handful of students have onsite meet ups with experts within one, specific industry or field of interest.

APPRENTICESHIP
Grades 11 & 12
One Mentor, One Project (1/year)

Open to students in grades 11 - 12, this individual or paired experience is project-based and is guided by an industry expert. The student(s) connect with a professional who onboards the learner(s) into the organization to guide a primarily self-directed project.

Terra High School offers AP courses through Edmentum's Courseware platform. Juniors and Seniors typically take 1-3 AP courses per year. AP courses taught include:

Long-term Immersive Programs:

Spanish Immersion Program: All learners participate in Spanish immersion beginning at age 3 and continuing through graduation, progressing towards true bilingual proficiency by high school completion.

Outdoor Education & Land Stewardship: Starting at age 5, students engage in comprehensive outdoor education, developing as environmental stewards through hands-on land management and conservation practices that continue throughout their Terra experience.

Arts
Integration:

Terra provides comprehensive art education for grades 1-12 and partners with The Art Farm at Serenbe to bring professional artists into studio spaces for direct engagement with learners. Our “Purpose-Built Learning” projects naturally incorporate artistic and design elements as students develop creative solutions to real-world problems. Students also participate in spring drama club, where accomplished actors, actresses, and directors collaborate with learners to produce theatrical performances for audiences beyond the Terra community.

Contemporary Reads

Contemporary Reads is a yearlong enrichment seminar focused on exploring complex themes of identity, history, race, power, and belonging through the lens of contemporary literature. Students will engage in thoughtful reading, reflective dialogue, and personal analysis rooted in story and community. Each selected title invites students to explore the intersections of self, society, and legacy. Books will be read in sequence and evenly-paced throughout the year.

Human Centered Design (HCD)

Human Centered Design (HCD) is a progressive, project-based curriculum that integrates design thinking methodologies with community engagement.

HCD is structured around experiential quarterly projects where students apply specific design frameworks to address tangible needs within their school and local community.

Terra High Seniors participate in a Senior Capstone where graduating seniors pitch, design, and execute an independent or community-facing challenge. The process emphasizes autonomous project management, rigorous real-world application, and public accountability.
